Zanyta Garrett is a child of God! She accepted the responsibility of being a Christian at her home church, Friendship Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Shelvin J. Hall. The love of her life found her at Friendship, Rev. Daniel J. Garrett. They won each other over with a simple conversation in a living room. Their love has encouraged, influenced, motivated, energized and inspired other couples throughout the years. And to this day you might still hear some people say to them “yall so cute” or ask them “are you all newlyweds.”
The couple decided to join Mt. Sinai where she matured as a Christian. There were many different ministries that poured into Zanyta, Antioch Baptist Church and Greater Open Door under Dr. Richard Nelson. She is currently the Proud First Lady of The Spirit Redeemed Missionary Baptist Church where her husband, Rev. Daniel J. Garrett is pastor. She has served as one of the children’s choir director’s and now serves as the women’s ministry liaison. She has a big but firm heart and absolutely loves her congregation! She believes that they are the best people on the south side of Chicago.
Zanyta is also a product of the Chicago Public School System. She went on to graduate from Benedict College (HBC) in South Carolina. She furthered her education by attending National Louis University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education. First Lady Garrett’s educational journey leads her back to the Chicago Public School System where she loves pouring into her students and seeing them blossom.
Her favorite Bible Scriptures are from the book of Philippians.
Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.”
Philippians 4:12-13: “I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do ALL things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
